Once upon a time, several disciples lived in an ashram. They often discussed their spiritual experiences among themselves—"Today I had this experience in meditation," "I saw that light." But there was one disciple who had never experienced anything special in meditation.
Frustrated, he thought, "Is my time in the ashram being wasted? Is there something lacking in my spiritual practice?" With a sad heart, he approached his Guru and shared his plight.
The Guru smiled and said in a calm voice, "Son, from tomorrow, go outside the ashram to meditate in solitude and then come and tell me about your experience."
The next day, the disciple sat down to meditate under a tree not far from the ashram. Two crows were sitting on a branch of the tree, but the disciple paid them no attention and was completely absorbed in his meditation. A few hours later, when his meditation was complete and he opened his eyes, he was astonished! Where the crows had been sitting, there now sat two beautiful swans. The disciple couldn't understand anything and returned to the ashram.
The next day, he went back to the same tree. The two swans were already sitting there. The disciple, without distraction, went into deep meditation again.
When he broke his meditation, he saw an amazing sight—the two swans had now transformed into divine souls! Suddenly, a Pushpak Vimana descended from the sky. The two divine souls smiled, folded their hands, and bowed to the disciple, then boarded the plane and departed for heaven.
The disciple was stunned by this miracle. He ran to his Guru and narrated the entire incident.
The Guru smiled and said, "Son, this is the power of your true spiritual practice and your proximity. It was through the energy of your spiritual practice that those crows first became swans and then became divine souls and were liberated."
