One can never become a true celibate by running away from a woman or moving away from her. A woman is not a door to hell, but can also be a door to liberation. The door to hell is only for those who are bound by attachment, lust, and infatuation with her; but for those who view a woman as a goddess, a form of power, and with respect, that very power becomes the path to liberation.
The true meaning of celibacy is not merely distancing oneself from a woman. Being grounded in the conduct of "Brahma" is celibacy. Only when a person's consciousness rises above sensual pleasures and begins moving towards truth, spiritual practice, and self-realization is he truly called a celibate.
When lust does not arise even in the presence of objects of enjoyment, when even enjoyment becomes devoid of desire, then the state of detachment should be understood. Brahmacharya is the name of that state."
Preservation of semen and its upward movement is considered the first stage of celibacy, but it should not be the result of any kind of repression, fear, or coercion. True celibacy emerges naturally with the maturity of spiritual practice.
When consciousness remains bound by the attraction of sensual pleasures, desires, and pleasures, life energy flows downward. In Tantric and Yogic perspectives, this is called downward movement. It is not merely a physical process but also an indication of the direction of consciousness.
But as a practitioner's spiritual practice deepens, the mind becomes stable, desires diminish, and life force becomes focused within. Then, the same energy that was previously spent on sensual pleasures gradually begins to flow upward. This upward movement is considered the true beginning of celibacy.
At this stage, celibacy ceases to be merely external restraint but becomes a higher state of consciousness—where Even when pleasures are present, attachment or craving does not arise within. There is no ego of renunciation, nor is there any desire for pleasure. The seeker becomes at ease, balanced, and in a state of witness.
Then, even a woman ceases to be merely a body, but rather a symbol of power. The nature of the world begins to change as one's perspective shifts. Where lust exists, bondage arises, and where there is faith, respect, and witnessing, the door to liberation opens.
"Change" will occur not by changing the date, but by changing the state of mind.
