A person who doesn't worry, isn't immersed in memories of the past, isn't immersed in fantasies of the future, lives in the present. This doesn't mean that if you have to take a train tomorrow morning, you won't buy a ticket today. But buying tomorrow's ticket is a matter of today. However, boarding tomorrow's train today is dangerous. And getting lost in thoughts about the troubles that will arise on tomorrow's train, and what will happen while sitting on it, is dangerous.
Sex isn't as bad as thinking about it. Sex can be a natural phenomenon, but thinking about it is so unnatural and perverted, it's a perversion. A person is thinking, thinking, planning, thinking 24 hours a day. And sometimes, psychologists say that after the experiences of hundreds of thousands of people, it becomes clear that a person becomes so interested in mental sex that they lose interest in real sex, and it seems dull. The sex that occurs in the mind itself appears more juicy and colorful.
If sex is arranged in this way in the mind, it creates confusion within us. Sex is not the mind's job. Gurdjieff used to say that those who try to use the mind's center for the sex center will have their intellect corrupted. It is inevitable, because the two have different functions. If a person tries to eat through the ears, the ears will be damaged and food will not reach them. Both will become problems.
That is why a person appears obsessed. He is sitting and looking at nude pictures, and the Muladhara has no connection with nude pictures. He doesn't even have eyes. The person looking at nude pictures is looking with the mind. And in the mind, he is contemplating the pictures, making plans, imagining, and creating colorful pictures. All of this together creates confusion within the center. The mind will start doing the work of the Muladhara, but the Muladhara cannot do the work of the mind. The intellect will be corrupted, the mind will be confused, and it will become insane.
Ninety percent of those locked up in mental asylums are insane because their minds are sexually engaged. If we investigate the madness of those outside mental asylums, we will discover that ninety percent of it is also sexually motivated. If we read their poems, it will be sexual, if we look at their photographs, it will be sexual, if we look at their paintings, it will be sexual, if we look at their novels, it will be sexual, if we go to see their films, it will be sexual; everything about them is surrounded by sex. This is obsession, this is madness.
If animals knew about us, they too would laugh at us, wondering what has happened to man? If they read our poems, even if they are by Kalidasa, they would be astonished, wondering what is the need for these poems? What is their meaning? If they saw our paintings, even if they are by Picasso, they would be astonished, wondering what is the meaning of these paintings? What is the need to depict women's breasts so much? What is the purpose?
Man has definitely gone mad somewhere. He has gone mad because he is using the intellect to do the work that belongs to the Muladhara (the root of the body) and the sex center. Therefore, there is no time left for the work that could have been done by the intellect.
That is why I said, don't think about the past, don't think about the future. Especially not about sex. Live in the present and allow as much sex as comes in the moment. Don't panic. But even during that sex, if you remember a little about the upward journey I talked about, that energy will very quickly begin to flow upward. And the bliss experienced in that flow is never experienced again in life.
