A small village, situated on the banks of a river, was renowned far and wide for its simplicity and natural beauty. Lush fields, mango and neem trees surrounded the village, and a gurgling river flowed through its center. This river was the basis of the villagers' lives. It provided drinking water, irrigated the fields, and children played on its banks.
The villagers considered the river to be like a mother. But no one knows what nature might do. One year, the rains were exceptionally heavy. Dark clouds hovered over the sky for several days, and it rained continuously. The river's water level began to rise. Within no time, the river overflowed.
One night, water entered the village. Panicked, people left their homes and ran for higher ground. There was chaos everywhere. Household items, wood, utensils, and many other things began to float away.
Among the floating material were two pots—one a sturdy brass pot and the other a simple clay pot.
Both were being swept away by the strong current of water, trying in their own ways to survive. The brass pot was heavy and strong. It was very proud of its strength. It thought it could easily withstand this flood.
When it noticed the clay pot floating nearby, it thought,"This one is very weak. It will break at any moment. I must help it."
It called out loudly,"Friend! You are made of clay, very fragile. You won't be able to hold out for long in this strong current. Come to me. I will protect you."
The clay pot replied calmly,"Friend, thank you for your concern. But staying near you is not without danger for me. You are strong and heavy. If you even slightly collide, I will break. So it's better that I keep my distance."
The brass pot laughed, "You're a coward! My strength will protect you."
The clay pot said, "Sometimes distance is safety. I'll try my own way. I trust in God, I'll reach the shore."
With that, it slowly drifted in the opposite direction of the current. Its light body floated on the water.
On the other hand, the brass pot, relying on its own strength, fought the current. But it was heavy. Water began to fill it again and again. Soon, its weight increased. It lost balance and sank into the depths.
The clay pot slowly drifted and reached the calm bank of the river. In the morning, when the water receded, it lay safely on the sand. It breathed a sigh of relief and thanked God.
That day, it realized that strength alone isn't everything; wisdom and caution are also essential.
