The Madman's Wisdom

There was a great king named King Vimal. He was very proud of his devotion and power. He decided to build the tallest and most magnificent temple in the world, so vast that its shadow would fall over three villages.

💐The King's Arrogance

The king employed thousands of laborers. Walls of gold, pillars of diamonds, and velvet floors—everything was amazing. When the temple was completed, the king prayed to God, "Lord, I have built for you the most beautiful house on earth. Now you come and reside here."

That very night the king had a dream. God said, "Vimal, your temple is too small; I cannot fit inside it."

The king was astonished! How could such a huge temple be so small? He had the temple enlarged, doubling its height. But every night the same voice would come to him in his dreams: "It's still too small."

💐The Search for a Madman

Distressed, the king disguised himself and went out to wander the streets of his capital.  There he saw the city's most infamous "madman" searching for something in the dust with a broken lamp.

The king asked, "What are you looking for?"

The madman laughed and said, "I'm looking for a brick from the temple. I heard the king has completed the temple, but I haven't found my corner."

The king took him to his magnificent temple and showed him around. The madman saw the temple's gold and diamonds and burst out laughing. He said, "Your Majesty, you have built a prison for God, not a temple. God is roaming outside in the dust, in the sweat of laborers, and in the eyes of the hungry, and you've tried to confine Him within these four walls?"

💐A Miraculous End

The king's eyes opened. He asked, "Then how can I build a real temple?"

The madman took the king's hand and led him to a settlement outside the palace, where an old woman was fetching water for her sick granddaughter.  The madman said, "Help him, this will be the first brick of the temple."

As the king bent down and picked up the old woman's pitcher, he felt the walls around him disappear. He felt the entire sky appear to be the roof of the temple, and he could hear the chants of God in the breeze.

💐The story's unique message : - We often try to confine God within four walls and precious metals, while He is infinite. The true 'religious' person is not the one who builds the largest building, but the one who considers the entire world as God's home and serves Him.
