It's a long time ago that a man named Shekhar lived in a village. He was very hardworking, but there was no employment in the village. He decided to go to the city, where he would earn the wages he deserved. With this thought in mind, Shekhar set off from his village one day towards the city.
The city was far away, and Shekhar was exhausted from walking. He was so tired that he couldn't walk any longer, and he sat down. Then, he saw a hut a short distance away, with a horse tied inside. He thought, "Why not rent this horse and ride it to the city?" He somehow reached the hut. He saw a man standing there, and he realized that this man must be the horse's owner. Shekhar said to the man, "I have to go to the city, which is several kilometers away. I'm very tired. Can I borrow your horse?" The horse's owner, irritated, said, "Should I just give you the horse?" Shekhar replied, "I won't take the horse for free. I'll pay you for the horse's rent."
The horse's owner said, "I can rent you the horse, but I have to go to another village. If you drop me there, I can rent you this horse."
Shekhar quickly agreed. Shekhar sat on the horse in front, and the horse's owner sat behind. It was a hot summer day, and the sun was scorching. Both of them were tired and drenched in sweat. Shekhar said, "It's very hot and I'm very tired. Let's rest for a while."
They both looked around, but couldn't see any trees. Then Shekhar dismounted and sat in the horse's shade. Shekhar had only been able to rest in the horse's shade for a short while when the horse's owner became furious at the sight. The horse's owner said, "I have rented you the horse, not its shade. You move away from here. I have the right to this shade and I will rest here."
Hearing this, Shekhar said, "Sir! What are you saying? If I have rented the horse, then I have the right to its shade as well. If you wish, you can also sit with me in this shade and rest."
But the horse's owner was very stubborn and said, "No, no, I have sole rights to this shade and I will sit under it. You move away from here."
A heated argument broke out between the two over such a small matter, and it escalated from verbal altercations to physical altercations. They began fighting and kicking each other. There was no one to intervene in the deserted forest. The horse became enraged after seeing them fight and ran away.
After a while, when the horse's owner looked for the horse, he could not see it anywhere. Seeing this, the horse's owner said, "Hey, where has my horse gone? It's still new." He didn't even look at the house properly. I don't know where he went, and how am I supposed to find him now?"
Then Shekhar said, "It's a good thing this is what happens to people like you. You were worried about the shadow, and now you're worried about the horse's body."
The horse's owner realized his mistake and sat down, his head on his back, crying in anguish. He said, "My little greed has caused me such a huge loss. I've now received the consequences of my actions. Because of the greed for the horse's shadow, I even lost the horse's body."
💐Moral : - "This story teaches us that greed is a terrible thing, and sometimes even a small greed can lead to a huge loss."
