A king bought two servants. One was very handsome, and the other quite ugly. The king called the first (beautiful) servant for a talk. After talking to him, the king realized that he was intelligent and soft-spoken. The king sent him away and then called the second servant.
The king was not pleased with the second servant's appearance, but he decided to test his abilities and qualities. The king told him, "The servant who came before you spoke very badly about you. But after seeing you, I can't believe him. Well, tell me something about yourself."
The servant replied politely, "If he said anything about me, he must be telling the truth. It's possible that the faults he pointed out in me are ones I don't see myself." Hearing this, the king then said, "I want you to tell me something about his shortcomings."
The servant said, "He is a very honest man. He is simple and truthful. He is also brave, and I have never seen a better person than him." The king sent him out and thought, why not test the first servant in the same way?
The king called back the previous servant and said, "The servant who just left was speaking ill of you. If I were to pay attention to his words, you should leave the palace right now." Hearing this, the handsome servant became irritated and angrily retorted, "What that ugly man said about me is wrong. He has no sense of right and wrong!" He continued to abuse me.
The king, hearing his harsh words, said, "Your appearance is bad, but your heart is ugly. From today on, I am making you his subordinate." Hearing this, the servant understood that this was the king's test, which he had failed. He admitted his mistake and apologized to the king.
Even with a beautiful and attractive appearance, if a person has flaws, he cannot be respected. On the contrary, if the appearance is ordinary but the character is excellent, then that person is always worthy of respect.
