Once, a king was passing through a forest with his convoy on a hunting expedition. With no prey in sight, they slowly entered the dense forest.
They had only gone a short distance when they spotted the hideout of some bandits. As they approached, a parrot sitting on a nearby tree called out, "Catch him, catch him! A king is coming. He has a lot of goods. Loot him! Come quickly! Come quickly!"
Hearing the parrot's call, all the bandits ran towards the king. Seeing the bandits approaching, the king and his soldiers took off running.
They had fled for miles. A large tree appeared ahead. They went to the tree to rest for a while. As soon as they reached the tree, the parrot sitting on the tree said, "Come, king, you are welcome to the hut of our sage. Come in, drink some water, and rest."
Hearing this from the parrot, the king was astonished and began to wonder how two creatures of the same species could behave so differently. The king was at a loss.
He believed the parrot and went inside the sage's hut. He bowed to the sage, sat down beside him, and told him his entire story. Then he asked the sage, "Sage, why is there such a difference in the behavior of these two parrots?"
The sage listened patiently and said, "It's nothing, King. It's just the effect of company."
Living with bandits, the parrot has also started behaving like bandits and speaking their language.
In other words, one becomes like the environment in which one lives. The point is that we should choose our company wisely."
