The Wisdom Behind Foolishness

Once upon a time, there was a vast, lush, and prosperous kingdom. A mighty king ruled over it. The king was courageous, just, and learned, but sometimes, to test his own wisdom and cunning, he would subject his courtiers and ministers to strange tests. The king's most beloved minister was extremely wise, humble, and visionary. His wisdom and clear speech were admired throughout the kingdom.

One day, state affairs were in full swing in the court. The ministers were discussing the state's problems and making decisions related to the welfare of the people. Then, suddenly, the king turned to the minister and said, "Minister! We need to see the four biggest fools of this kingdom present before us. You have one month to do this. Go and complete this task."

Hearing this order from the king, the minister was stunned for a few moments. This task seemed not only strange but also meaningless. Yet, he was the king's servant.  He bowed his head, accepted the order, and set out in search of the fools.

For the next month, the minister traveled from village to village, town to town, and city to city. He carefully observed people's ways of working, their thinking, and their behavior. After witnessing many strange incidents, he finally selected two individuals whose foolishness was clearly evident. When the month was over, he presented them to the court.

When the king saw only two people in the court, he became enraged.

"Minister! We asked you to bring four fools. What a joke!" the king roared.

The minister said in a calm and polite voice, "Your Majesty! Please listen to me completely, then decide as you see fit."

The king composed himself and said, "Okay, present these two first."

The minister brought forward the first man and said,

Your Majesty! This is the first fool. I saw him traveling alone in a bullock cart. Despite sitting on the cart, he carried his heavy bundle on his head. When I asked why, he said, "If I put the bundle on the cart, it will increase the burden on the oxen." Your Majesty, when the cart itself is made to carry a load, who could be more foolish than that?"

The king smiled upon hearing this.

Then the minister brought forward the second man and said,

Your Majesty! This one is even more foolish. I saw him take his buffalo up the stairs to the roof of the house. When asked, he said, "Grass has grown on the roof, so I am taking the buffalo there." He didn't realize the simple fact that the grass could be cut and brought down."

The king nodded in agreement and said, "Indeed, these two are very foolish. Now show me the third one."

The minister folded his hands and said, "Your Majesty! The third fool is standing before you."

The king was astonished and said, "Where? I can't see anyone else."

The minister politely replied, "Your Majesty, it was me. I left the important state affairs and wandered around for a whole month in search of fools. If this isn't foolishness, what is?"

The court fell silent. The king grew serious and said, "And the fourth fool?"

The minister gathered courage and said, "Your Majesty, I apologize, but you are the fourth fool. While managing such a large kingdom, you wasted your precious time and the kingdom's precious time on such a useless task."

Upon hearing this, the king realized his mistake. He embraced the minister and said, "You spoke the truth. True wisdom is that which puts time, duty, and the welfare of the people above all else."

💐Moral : - Wasting time on unnecessary and useless tasks is also foolishness, even if it is the king who does it.
