The Clever Jackal and the Simple Camel

It's a long time ago. Two close friends lived in a forest. One was a jackal and the other was a camel. The jackal was very clever, and the camel was simple. These two friends would sit for hours by the river, sharing their joys and sorrows. Days passed, and their friendship grew stronger.

One day, someone told the jackal that there were ripe watermelons in a nearby field. The jackal was tempted, but that field was across the river. Now, crossing the river and reaching the field would be difficult. So, he started thinking of a way to cross the river.

Thinking, he went to the camel. The camel saw the jackal during the day and asked, "Friend, how come you're here? We were supposed to meet by the river in the evening."  Then the jackal cleverly said, "Look, friend, there are ripe watermelons in a nearby field. I've heard they're very sweet. You'll be delighted to eat them. That's why I came to tell you."

The camel loved watermelons. He said, "Wow! I'm going to that village right now. I haven't eaten watermelons in a long time."

The camel quickly crossed the river and prepared to go to the field. Just then, the jackal said, "Friend, I like watermelons too, but I can't swim. If you eat a watermelon, I'll feel like I've eaten one too."

The camel said, "Don't worry, I'll carry you across the river on my back. Then we'll eat watermelons together."

The camel did as he was told. Upon reaching the field, the jackal ate the watermelons to his heart's content and was overjoyed. He started making loud noises with joy.  Just then the camel said, "Don't make any noise," but he didn't listen.

Hearing the jackal's call, the farmers came near the field with sticks. The jackal was clever, so he quickly hid behind the trees. The camel was large, so he couldn't hide. The farmers, enraged, beat him severely.

Somehow, saving his life, the camel got out of the field. Just then, the jackal, hiding behind a tree, came out. Seeing the jackal, the camel angrily asked, "Why were you howling like that?"

The jackal said, "I have a habit of howling after eating, only then do I digest my food."

This answer enraged the camel even more. Still, he quietly continued walking towards the river. Reaching the river, he placed the jackal on his back.

The jackal was secretly happy that the camel had been beaten. Reaching the middle of the river, the camel began to take a dip in it.  The jackal was frightened and asked, "What are you doing?"

The camel angrily replied, "After I eat something, I have to take a dip in the river to digest it."

The jackal realized that the camel was taking revenge for his actions. With great difficulty, the jackal saved his life from the water and reached the river bank. From that day on, the jackal never dared to harass the camel.
