The True Value of Humility



A man had two diamonds. They looked exactly alike. He took them to a jeweler and said, "If you can identify which one is the real diamond, I will give you the real diamond.

But if you can't, you'll have to pay me the equivalent of the diamond."

The jeweler tried hard, but he couldn't identify the real diamond. As per the condition, he had to pay the man the equivalent of the diamond's value.

A blind man standing nearby heard this bet and said, "I can identify the real diamond."

Everyone was astonished. In front of many people, the blind man placed both diamonds together in his palms and stood in the sunlight. After a while, he clenched one diamond in his fist and said, "This is the real diamond."

The blind man's words proved true. He won the bet and got the diamond.  People asked in surprise, "How did you identify a real diamond when you couldn't even see it?"

The blind man replied, "The fake diamond heated up as soon as it was exposed to sunlight, while the real diamond remained cool."

Then he said, "The same applies to humans.

Some people become arrogant and show off their status as soon as they gain a little money, position, or power.

But cultured and well-bred people don't forget their manners even when circumstances change.

Arrogance and becoming infuriated by a little success—this is the hallmark of lowly people."
