Rulership and Responsibility: Lessons from the Owl and the Swan

Once, a swan and a swan woman, wandering through picturesque surroundings, reach a desolate, deserted area.

The swan woman said to the swan, "What desolate area have we come to? There is neither water, nor forest, nor cool breeze here. It will be difficult for us to survive here." While wandering, evening fell.

The swan said to the swan woman, "Somehow spend the night in this forest. We will return to the city in the morning."

Slowly, night fell. An owl was sitting on the tree under which the swan and the swan woman had stopped. Hearing its voice, the swan woman said to the swan, "Hey! We can't even sleep here at night because of the owl hooting."

The swan then explained to the swan woman, "Somehow pass the night. Now I understand why this area is desolate."  The area where such owls live will definitely be desolate and desolate."

The owl sitting on the tree was listening to their conversation. In the morning, the owl came down and said, "Swan brother, I caused you both trouble last night, please forgive me."

The swan said, "It's okay brother, thank you." Saying this, as the swan moved forward with his swan, the owl shouted from behind, "Hey! Where is this swan going with my wife?"

The swan was startled. He said, "Your wife? Hey brother, this is the swan, my wife. She came with me and is going with me."

The owl said, "You're lying. Shut up, she's my wife."

The dispute between the two escalated. People from the entire area gathered, and people from several villages gathered. A panchayat was called. The Panchas also arrived and asked, "Brothers, what is this dispute about?"

People reported that the owl was saying, "The swan is his wife, and the swan is saying that the swan is his wife."

After a long meeting and panchayat, the Panchas stepped aside and said, "Brothers, it's true that the swan is the swan's wife, but this swan and the swan will leave this village shortly. The owl has to live among us, so the decision should be in the owl's favor."

Then, announcing their decision, the Panchas said, "After examining all the facts and evidence, this panchayat has concluded that the swan is the owl's wife, and the swan is ordered to leave the village immediately."

Hearing this, the swan was shocked.  He began to cry, scream, and shout, "The Panchayat has given a wrong decision. This owl is forcibly claiming my wife." As he continued, weeping and screaming, the owl called out to the swan, "Hey, friend, swan, wait." The swan cried, "Brother, what will you do now? You've already taken my wife, will you take my life too?"

The owl replied, "No, friend, this swan was, is, and will always be your wife. But last night, when I was screaming, you told your wife that this area is desolate and deserted because an owl lives here. This area is desolate and deserted not because an owl lives here; it is desolate and deserted because there are Panchayats here who rule in favor of owls."

The only purpose of writing this story here is that the ruler should always follow his royal duties with honesty and truthfulness, he should be discerning between right and wrong, he should not be influenced by others, that is, he should not be gullible, it is very important for him to have transparency, if the king is of high character then the subjects will also behave accordingly because the ruler is considered like a father, he should set an example by treating his subjects with kindness and equality...
