A saint was traveling somewhere. He stopped to rest on the way. He lay down under a tree and fell asleep. In his sleep, he had a dream: "He was walking along the road and met a merchant carrying huge bundles on five donkeys. The bundles were so heavy that the donkeys were barely able to carry them. The saint asked the merchant, "What things have you packed in these bundles that these poor donkeys are unable to carry?"
The merchant replied, "They are filled with items useful to humans. I am going to the market to sell them." The saint asked, "Well! What are those things? Let me also know!"
The merchant said, "This first donkey you see is carrying a bundle of oppression." The saint asked, "Who would buy oppression?"
The merchant said, "Its buyers are kings, emperors, and those in power. It is sold at a very high price."
The sage asked, "What's in this second bundle?" The merchant replied, "This bundle is filled to the brim with pride, and its buyers are pundits and scholars."
The third donkey is loaded with a bundle of jealousy, and its customers are wealthy people who can't tolerate each other's progress. People are constantly lining up to buy it.
The sage asked, "Okay! What's in the fourth bundle, brother?"
The merchant replied, "It's filled with dishonesty, and its customers are businessmen who profit greatly from fraudulent sales in the market. Therefore, there are ready buyers for it in the market."
The sage asked, "What's on the last donkey?"
The merchant replied, "This donkey is loaded with deceit and fraud, and its demand is high among women who have no household chores and who, by resorting to deceit and fraud, try to elevate their own fortunes by diminishing the fortunes of others." He is its buyer. Then the Mahatma woke up.
In this dream, he found answers to many of his questions. In a true sense, the merchant was the devil himself, spreading evil in the world. His victims are selfish people with weak minds. There is only one way to avoid becoming a victim of the devil: to have true faith in God and strive to make your mind a temple of God.
