The Singing Bird of Gold

In a forest, a black bird lived on a tall tree. When it sang, gold grains fell from its beak. One day, by chance, a hunter spotted it. Seeing the gold grains falling from its mouth, he was overjoyed. He said to himself, "Wow! How fortunate I am! I will catch this bird and take it home. It will give me gold grains every day. I will become rich." To catch the bird, the hunter spread his net on the ground and scattered some rice grains on it. The black bird came down to peck at the grains and got caught in the net. The hunter caught the bird and took it home. From that day on, the hunter began receiving gold grains every day. Soon, he became a rich man. He thought he deserved some fame and respect. So he had a golden cage made for the bird. Then he presented the bird to the king.  While presenting the gift, she said to the king, "Your Majesty, this bird will sing sweet songs in your palace. It will also give you some gold grains." The king was delighted with this gift. He gave the fowler a high position in his court. Soon, the king had amassed a large amount of gold grains. He presented the golden bird to the queen. The queen opened the cage door, freed the bird, and gave the golden cage to the royal goldsmith, saying, "Make beautiful ornaments for me from this golden cage."

The bird flew back to the forest. Now every morning, she began singing the song of the four fools. The first fool was me, who was caught in the hunter's net. The second fool was the fowler, who presented me to the king.

The third fool was the king, who gave me to the queen. The fourth fool was the queen, who freed me.
