The Stark Contrasts of Food Wastage and Hunger: A Global Perspective

If you ever feel unlucky, remember that there are people even more unfortunate and helpless than you in this world who live their lives without complaint.

Many of us become sad over small things, even though we have so much in life.

Yet, we always want more. Human desires have no limits.

Even those who possess wealth, property, and all the comforts may not be satisfied.

On the other hand, in every corner of this world, there are people living on the streets, with nothing to eat, and no bed to sleep on.

They probably have no great desires left in their lives—their struggle is simply to survive.

No one can imagine the hardships and suffering they face daily.

While developed countries waste food, millions of people in Africa are dying of hunger.

Today we are called rich, but we rarely think about the poor because we have become selfish.

We are so busy with our own joys and dreams that we don't have time to feel the pain of others.

The food we waste every day could save millions of lives in Africa.

African countries with the highest hunger rates:

1. Somalia : - The severe famine of 2011-2012 killed approximately 260,000 people, more than half of them children.

2. Ethiopia : - During 1983-1985, severe drought and famine killed more than 1 million people.

3. South Sudan : - Civil war and economic crisis have repeatedly led to famine-like conditions.

4. Sudan (Darfur, 2023-2024) : - The food crisis has reached its peak due to war and displacement.

5. Sahel and Horn of Africa Region : - Frequent droughts and climate change are severely impacting agriculture and food production.

Countries in the world with the highest food wastage:

🇮🇳 India : - 68 million tons – Most of the wastage occurs at the production and distribution stage.

🇺🇸 America : - 60 million tons – 30-40% of food is wasted, especially in restaurants and homes.

🇨🇳 China : - 91 million tons – The government has launched a "Clean Plate" campaign to prevent wastage.

🇯🇵 Japan : - 6 million tons – Food quality and expiration dates contribute to the highest wastage.

🇷🇺 Russia : - 33 million tons – This is due to storage constraints and poor management.

🇧🇷 Brazil : - 27 million tons – A lot of food is wasted due to agricultural and supply system deficiencies.

Conclusion : -

We must understand our responsibility and help countries where people are suffering from hunger.

Our small steps—like preventing food wastage and providing food to the needy—can make this world a better place.

No one should die of hunger—this should be our thought and effort.
