Once upon a time, in a small village nestled in the lap of the Himalayas, lived a young man named Aditya. He was very ambitious. He was always in the pursuit of something—sometimes wealth, sometimes position, sometimes fame. Despite every success, a void remained within him.
One day, exhausted, he approached a sage and said, "Gurudev, tell me, where can I find happiness and peace in life? I have achieved everything, but my mind remains unpeaceful."
The sage smiled. He gave him two lamps and said, "One of these is the lamp of contentment, and the other is the lamp of balance.
Keep both of these burning in your life, and see what happens."
Aditya asked, "Gurudev, will this alleviate my suffering?"
The sage replied, "It won't alleviate suffering, but you will be able to see beyond it."
He returned with both lamps.
The first day, he decided that whatever he had was enough—he didn't desire anything new that day.
For the first time, a gentle peace descended within him.
This was the lighting of the *lamp of contentment*.
Then the next day, he tried to accept whatever situation came his way with equanimity—not jumping at praise or breaking down at criticism.
Gradually, his mind began to stabilize.
This was the lighting of the *lamp of balance*.
Months passed. Aditya's face was now calm and composed.
The villagers were surprised—the same man who was once restless had now become as still as a lake within.
One day, a sage passed through the village again.
He asked, "Aditya, how are you feeling now?"
Aditya smiled and said, "Gurudev, now I understand—happiness lies not in anything, but in the perspective with which we see it.
And peace lies not in any place, but in the nature we have cultivated."
The sage blessed him, "Son, your lamps will never go out, because they are burning within."
Moral : -
True happiness lies not in attainment, but in understanding.
True peace lies not in stability, but in balance.
Only one who lights these two lamps within himself can understand the true meaning of life.
