Desire and Determination

Once a man asked the great philosopher Socrates, “What is the secret of success?”  So Socrates told that person to meet him near the river tomorrow morning, there he would get the answer to his question.

The night passed and morning came. Next day as soon as it was morning, that person reached near the river.

Socrates was also there. Then Socrates asked that person to get into the river and measure its depth. That person got into the river and started going forward.

As soon as the water reached the person's nose, Socrates came from behind and suddenly dipped his face in the water. That person started struggling to get out. Despite trying a lot, he was not able to get out. Socrates was more powerful than that person. He kept that person submerged in water for a long time. When he felt that perhaps he might die if he was kept submerged for a little longer, then he released that person.

As soon as Socrates released that person, he took his head out of the water. Then, he started breathing fast.

When he regained consciousness, he turned towards Socrates  He started looking at him with questioning eyes.

Seeing his astonished expression, Socrates started smiling. Then he asked the man – “When you were in the water, what did you want?”

The man said – “I wanted to get out quickly and breathe.

What else would a drowning person want!”

Socrates said – “This is the answer to your question (secret of success). When you desire success with the same intensity with which you wanted to breathe, then you will definitely get success. To achieve success, you only have to make efforts and work hard accordingly.”

Friends, those who want to achieve success by making a little effort never get success, to achieve success one has to put in one hundred percent, only then success kisses the feet.
