He further said that an example of this has been seen in Mukuku village in Kenya. The space ring of the 2008 Ariane rocket launch has fallen on the ground there. This incident has again drawn the world's attention towards the danger to earth from the increasing garbage in space. Scientists say that in future the garbage moving in space can prove to be a danger to earth and human life.
According to a media report, Dr Whittaker said that as the junk in space is increasing, the danger is also increasing. He said that the possibility of space junk falling on the ground and colliding with it is very low, but this possibility will increase in the future. There is a very high risk of loss of life and property due to this. If any object falling from space comes at a high speed, then there will be a lot of damage. The world needs to pay attention to this.
Buildings can be destroyed in urban areas : - Dr Whittaker says that the junk rotates at a speed of eight km per second (18000 mph) in orbit. However, its speed will decrease when it reaches the atmosphere. Even after this, it will rotate at a speed of about 100 meters per second. He says that if a junk like the Ariane separation ring falls in a densely populated city, a large building can be destroyed. This can also lead to human loss.
Dr. Whittaker has said that as the number of spacecraft launches has increased, so has the junk in space. Satellite and rocket manufacturing companies will have to take responsibility for reducing space waste.
Whittaker has appealed that rocket and satellite companies should find a solution to this. He said that the space ring falling in Kenya draws attention towards the increasing danger. Space junk is not only a danger for satellites but also for the people living on the earth. A solution to this should be found soon. The debris left by humans in space is called space garbage.
