The Deadly Suicide Plant: Dendrocnide moroides

There are many types of trees and plants found on the earth. People plant trees for greenery. Trees are very important for the environment. Human life also exists because of them. However, there are many very poisonous and dangerous plants in this world, which can kill anyone in a moment. In this article, I  will tell you about one such very dangerous and poisonous plant. 

The name of the most poisonous plant found on earth is Gympie-gympie. This poisonous plant looks very ordinary. Touching it gives the feeling of burning with hot acid and electric shock. It is said that its sting gives such a dangerous pain that a person is forced to commit suicide in agony. Due to this, this plant is called Suicide Plant. 

Scientist Marina Hurley has given detailed information about this plant. Once she was doing research on Australian rainforests. She knew that there could be many dangerous trees and plants in the forest.  To protect herself from these, she wore welding gloves and a body suit. During her research, she came in contact with a new plant. Studying this plant even with welding gloves proved to be costly for her.

She told that after touching this plant, she felt acid and electric shock after which she went to the hospital. By then her whole body had become red and she was screaming with burning sensation. To reduce the effect of Gympie-gympie, she had to stay in the hospital for a long time and had to take steroids. In an interview given to Discovery, she told that there was pain like electric shock and acid was poured on the body.

Gympie-gympie is considered to be the plant with the most poisonous sting in the world. According to a report, during the Second World War, many army officers fell prey to this plant. Along with this, many committed suicide by shooting themselves in pain. The rest of the survivors remained troubled with pain for many years. After this, people noticed it and it was named suicide plant.

The biological name of this plant is Dendrocnide moroides. It is found in the north-eastern rainforest of Australia. Its common name is Gympie-gympie. This plant is also known by many names. People know it by names like Suicide Plant, Jimpai Stinger, Stinging Brush and Moonlighter. This plant is found in Australia as well as Moluccas and Indonesia.

This plant is 3 to 15 feet tall and is full of thorns which contain neurotoxin poison. The poison enters the body through its thorns. Its poison is like neurotoxin which has a direct effect on the nervous system. This can also cause death of a person. After the thorn pricks, the pain starts increasing rapidly within 30 minutes. The pain reduces if treatment is received early.
