Scientists have discovered the fossil of a flying reptile. A fossil of a giant flying reptile found millions of years ago has been found on Sky Island. This fearsome animal had a wingspan of 8 feet and extremely sharp teeth which made it extremely dangerous. It is said to be the largest Jurassic pterosaur ever. Flying Jurassic pterosaurs ruled the skies 17 million years ago.
The fossil of this flying Jurassic pterosaur has been discovered by Edinburgh University student Amelia Penney on a remote seashore. The tide was a major challenge for the team that discovered the fossil, as it could sweep away everything that was on the shore. Amelia Penney and her team faced many difficulties in finding this fossil, but they managed to find it. Let's know about this discovered flying Jurassic pterosaur.
According to a media report, scientists have named this new species of pterosaur as Dearc Sgiathanach i.e. winged reptile. Professor Steve Brussett of the School of Geoscience at the University of Edinburgh has told that these fossils are very ancient and preserved.
He told that watching a bunch of them is like a horror film, because one can get scared seeing them. Anyone's soul will tremble on seeing them hunting.
Professor Steve Brusatte has reported that when the jaws were closed, their long and sharp teeth looked like cages. Perfect for fishing. He said that if there is this dangerous animal on the seashore, then I cannot even think of going there.
He said that this is one of the most beautiful, ancient and highly preserved pterosaur skeletons ever found. He has described it as a completely new species. This suggests that the flying reptiles of the Jurassic period were larger than previously estimated.
PhD student Natalia Jagielska says that this dangerous animal had two dozen or 24 teeth. He has described it as the largest pterosaur of the Jurassic period.
Jagielska said that we get information that pterosaurs were much larger than anticipated when they were compared to birds before the Cretaceous period. The fossil was kept in the National Museum of Scotland.
