Scientists have uncovered a big secret about the hearing ability of humans. Scientists have told that humans have got the ability to hear from a sea creature. The genes that develop hearing in humans are linked to sea creatures. This genus has evolved from an organism called Sea Anemones. Now this question is arising in your mind that how can a sea creature connect with human ears? But scientists have told that this is absolutely true. Let us know what is the relation between the hearing ability of humans and this sea creature?
The scientific name of this sea creature is Nematostella vectensi, in which a genus is found. This gene is called Pou-iv and is found in the trunk of anemones. It gives him the power to touch and feel. Cnidaria is the phylum of this organism and Bilateria is closely related to it.
Like humans, the body of this organism is bilaterally balanced. The ancestors of humans and this creature lived on the earth between 748 and 604 million years ago. The ancestors of sea anemones, bilateria and humans are closely related. In these, organs with the ability to feel have developed, which are called sensory organs. There has been a change in the ability of humans to hear them.
University of Arkansas biologist Nagayasu Nakanishi described this study as interesting. Now this will provide information on how mechanosensation evolved in sea anemones. It has also revealed that the hearing of humans developed during the Pre-Cambrian period.
Nagayasu explained that hair cells in mammals develop due to Po-four. He told that after inactivation of this gene in mice, they become deaf. Similar mechanosensory hair cells are found in the suds of sea anemones. Touching the hair cells gives it the ability to feel.
Scientists have raised the possibility that sensor hair cells give them the ability to hear, but this is not clear. How do these genes work? Biologist Ethan Ozment and his team tried to find out. They used the CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing tool for this.
It has become clear from the study that due to the Po-four genes, the ability to hear in cnidaria and bilateria is developed.
This study has been published in the journal eLife. More study is still needed on this gene.
