At the same time, according to another story, Friendship Day started in the year 1919. The credit for this goes to Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark Cards. It is said that at that time people used to send Friendship Day cards to their friends. Since then this Friendship Day is being celebrated till date. However, on 27 April 2011, the United Nations fixed its date as 30 July. But in India it is celebrated on the first Sunday of August.

According to another story, in the year 1930, a businessman named Joes Hall started this day.  The merchant had chosen August 2 to celebrate this day, so that on this day all the friends could join together to express their gratitude for friendship and spend time with each other by giving cards to each other. Later, many countries of Europe and Asia started Friendship Day, carrying forward this tradition.
