Concentration

When Swami Vivekanandaji was abroad, one day he was walking in a deserted area. There was also a lake there. He saw some boys near the lake aiming at the water with a gun.

Swami Vivekanandji also reached out to those boys. The boys were trying to aim the gun at the eggshells, but none of their targets seemed right. When the boys saw the Indian monk, they started laughing and asked Swamiji, 'Can you shoot?'

Swami Vivekanandji used to do everything with great efficiency. He took the gun from the boys' hands and focused the target very carefully. When he fired the first bullet with full concentration, it went straight to the egg shell. Swami Vivekanandaji hit such a target not once, but several times. All the boys were surprised to see this. They were thinking that only a big shooter could hit such a target.

The boys asked, 'Have you practiced shooting
before?'

Swami Vivekanandaji said, 'I have practiced concentration. Be it shooting a gun or reading a book or shooting an arrow.

Swami Vivekanandaji always used to say, 'I remember very well an incident of Arjuna. When Dronacharya asked Arjuna what else do you see apart from the parrot's eye? Then Arjun replied that I can only see the eyes of the parrot. This is what is called concentration.

Here Swami Vivekanandaji has given this message that if we do any work with full concentration, then we definitely get success in it. If our attention is diverted even a little, then the chances of getting failure increase.
