Walk Slowly, Reach Safely

On the quiet banks of the river, an old monk was sitting under a tree as usual. Evening was slowly setting. The sun's glow spread like a golden blanket over the river water. Just then, a monk approached briskly, stopped beside him, and said, "old monk, how far is the city from here? I've heard that the city gates close at sunset. I have to stay in the city tonight. Will I get there on time?"

The old monk looked at him calmly and said with a smile, "If you walk slowly, you might just make it."

The monk was surprised to hear this. He thought, "The city gates are about to close, and old monk is telling me to walk slowly! If you want to reach your destination quickly, you should walk fast."

Without asking any further questions, he quickly ran towards the city.

After some distance, the path became difficult. In some places, there were large stones, and in others, the ground was uneven. The monk didn't slow down. He continued running.  Suddenly, his foot hit a stone, and he fell hard.

His knee and leg were injured. He lay there in pain for some time. With great difficulty, he got up and began limping forward.

Now his pace had slowed even further.

He kept looking back and thinking, "If only I had understood what that old man said."

By the time he reached the city, it was already dark. The huge gate of the city was slowly closing. The monk tried with all his might to move forward, but due to his injury, he could not reach in time.

At that very moment, a man was passing by. He saw the monk's condition and started smiling.

The monk asked angrily, "Why are you laughing at my trouble?"

The man said, "I'm not smiling at your trouble, but at your mistake. A few years ago, the same thing happened to me. I went to the same old monk, and he told me, 'Go slowly, and you'll reach your destination.' Like you, I didn't understand his words and ran fast. I fell on the way, got injured, and the city gates closed in my sight."

The monk asked in surprise, "But why did old monk say that?"

The man replied, "Because old monk knew that the path to the city was difficult and rocky. He meant not to rush, but to walk carefully. If you take your steps carefully, you'll reach on time without getting injured."

The monk stood in silence for a while. That day, he realized that the meaning of every advice should be understood not just by words, but by the experience behind it.

Learning : -

Success in life is not merely achieved by running fast.  Too often, haste can lead us to our destination instead of getting us closer. Even a small step, taken with the right direction, patience, and caution, can take us safely to our destination.

In life's race, the right steps are more important than speed.

Tread slowly, walk carefully, and reach your destination safely.
