Nature’s Most Dangerous Plant : Manchineel Tree



There's a tree called the Manchineel. Its scientific name is Hippomane mancinella. It's considered one of the world's most dangerous trees, and Guinness World Records has listed it as "the world's most dangerous tree."


But what's so special about it? 👇


☠️ 1. The tree's white sap is extremely dangerous.


The milky white sap that oozes from the Manchineel's trunk and other parts can cause severe irritation, swelling, and blisters if it comes into contact with the skin.


👁️ 2. It's also dangerous for the eyes.


If the sap gets into the eyes, it can cause severe burns and injuries. Therefore, caution is necessary when cutting this tree or even touching any part of it.


🌧️ 3. It's also not advisable to stand under it during rain.


The irritating substances present on the tree's leaves and branches can be carried down by rainwater.  Even contact with such water can cause burns.


🍏 4. Its fruit resembles an apple


Its fruit may resemble a small green apple, but it is unsafe to eat. Consuming it can cause severe irritation in the mouth and throat and serious health problems.


🔥 5. Burning the wood is also dangerous


The smoke emitted when burning the wood of this tree can cause severe irritation to the eyes and respiratory tract. Therefore, burning its wood is also risky.


🌎 6. Where is this tree found?


Manchineel is primarily found in the Caribbean region, Central America, and parts of South America. It often grows along the seashore and in sandy areas.

It is popularly called the "tree of death," but this does not mean that touching it will cause death. The real danger comes from its toxic and highly irritating sap.  Contact with it can cause serious injury, so it is safest to keep a distance from such a tree.
