The Hunter and the Footprints

It was a long time ago. Many wild animals lived in a dense forest. Lions also lived there. The lions' roars alone would make people's hearts tremble. Hearing about this forest, a hunter arrived there. He was determined to hunt a lion. He thought that killing one would increase his fame and respect in the village and town.

The hunter slowly advanced into the forest with his weapons. As he went deeper into the forest, his fear grew. The dense darkness, the tall trees, and the sounds of birds instilled fear in him. Yet, to show his bravery, he continued onward.

A short distance away, he saw a woodcutter. The woodcutter had come to the forest to cut wood. The hunter asked him affectionately,"My friend, have you seen a lion anywhere?"

The woodcutter smiled and said, "Yes, I saw fresh lion footprints near a nearby tree. This means the lion must be somewhere around here. If you really want to hunt one, come along. I'll take you there."

The hunter's face fell upon hearing this from the woodcutter. His heart began pounding. He thought, "What would happen to me if the lion really appeared? What if the lion hunted me instead of hunting?"

Frightened, the hunter stammered, "No, no, friend! I don't need to go there. I just wanted to see the lion's footprints. That's enough for me. I don't want to chase the lion."

With that, the hunter turned back and ran away without delay. The woodcutter smiled to himself at his plight.

This incident made it clear that a coward only pretends to be brave from a distance.  They only talk big, but when the real test comes, their fears are revealed.
