People typically submit resumes, go for interviews, and then wait for selection. However, the process of finding a job in China was so unique that it might surprise you. Candidates were asked to create and post an original video on the Chinese social media app Douyin. The video with the most likes, good reach, and superior content quality would be awarded the job. Let's find out.
Awesome Job in China : -
This opportunity was found on Laojun Mountain in China's Henan Province. 22-year-old content creator Li Sichen, known as "Xiao Jao" on social media, won the competition. Li posted a video of a night hike with his parents. Within a few days, the video garnered over 110,000 likes. He then secured the 30-day job. On July 16th, Li began work at an altitude of 7,217 feet above sea level.
A Dream Job : -
At first glance, this job may seem like a dream job. Mountains, clouds, open skies, and beautiful scenery... But once Li arrived, he discovered it wasn't that easy. His day begins at 4:50 a.m., where he has to take his camera and shoot from sunrise until dusk. Regardless of the weather, he must create and publish at least one original short video every day. Sometimes, he has to wait up to two hours for just one perfect shot.
Competition due to employment challenges : -
The changing weather at high altitude and weak mobile signals also add to the difficulties. On top of that, the loneliness and constant work make the experience extremely challenging, Li describes. The question arises: why is there so much competition for such a difficult job? A major reason for this is the employment challenge among China's youth. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the unemployment rate among youth aged 16-24 was 14.9 percent in June. This summer, 12.7 million graduates are entering the job market. Meanwhile, the average working hours in the country have reached 48.2 hours per week.
It's also a tourism promotion strategy : -
According to the South China Morning Post, this job isn't just a job, but also a tourism promotion strategy. China is focusing on becoming a tourism superpower under its 15th Five-Year Plan.
