One bright morning, Rani and her friends were studying in the school garden. There grew a large tree with shady green leaves.
A gentle breeze blew, making the leaves sway gently. “Why are tree leaves green?” Rani asked curiously.
The teacher smiled and then picked a leaf. “Green leaves help plants breathe and make food,” she explained. The children came closer and listened enthusiastically.
The teacher explained that plants breathe through their leaves. During the day, the leaves absorb dirty air and sunlight.
From that process, plants produce clean air that we breathe every day. “Oh, so trees are like our friends, huh?” Bimo said happily. “Yes,” the teacher replied, “if we take care of plants, they will help take care of our lives.”
Since that day, Rani and her friends have been diligently watering the plants and not picking leaves carelessly. They want the green leaves to stay healthy and can continue to help all living things.
