The Mirror of Society

A proud man was passing through a market when his eyes fell on a woman carrying a pot of ghee on her head.

The man called out to the woman and arrogantly asked...

"Hey, Madam, what are you selling...?"

The woman replied:"Yes, I'm selling ghee."

The man said:"Well, show me, how is it...?"

When the woman took the heavy pot of ghee off her head, some ghee spilled on the man's shirt. Seeing this, the man became very angry and roared in anger:"Can't you see? You've ruined my precious shirt! I won't let you move from here until I recover its price."

The poor woman said...???

"I'm a poor woman, I didn't intentionally spill ghee on your shirt. Have mercy on me and let me go."

But the man insisted and said:"I won't let you go until I get the price."

The woman asked...

"How much is your shirt worth?"

The man said:"One thousand dirhams."

The woman cried and said...

"I'm a poor woman, where will I get one thousand dirhams?"

The arrogant man said rudely...

"I don't care about that."

The woman pleaded:"Have mercy on me and don't defame me like this."

Just then a young man passed by. He asked the woman about the whole matter, and she told him the whole story.

The young man said to the man...

"Sir, I'll pay you the price for your shirt."

He took out a thousand rupees from his pocket and gave it to the arrogant man.

As the man started to leave with the thousand rupees, the young man said:"Where are you going?"

The man asked:"What else do you want from me...?"

The young man said:"You've paid for your shirt, now give it to us and go."

The man said in surprise...

"What's the shirt for...?"

The young man replied:"We've paid for your shirt, now the shirt is ours."

The man said nervously...

"So should I go naked...?"

The young man said:"We don't care about that."

The man said:"And if I don't give you the shirt...?"

The young man said...

"Then pay us its price."

The man asked...

"How much is it?"

The young man said:"Two thousand dirhams."

The arrogant man said:"But you gave me one thousand."

The young man said...

"Now that's none of your business."

The man said...

"That's too much."

The young man said:"Fine, then, take off our shirt."

The man cried:"You want to defame me...?"

The young man said:"And when you were defaming this poor woman...?"

The man said:"This is oppression and injustice."

The young man said in surprise...

"Wonderful, now you're feeling oppressed!"

Finally, to avoid further embarrassment, the man took two thousand rupees from his pocket and gave it to the young man.

The young man announced to the crowd that this two thousand rupees was a gift from him to this woman.

Our society is often like this. We don't care about the suffering and humiliation of others, but when it comes to ourselves, we feel oppressed. If we start considering the suffering of others in society as our own, we can be counted among the best nations in the world.
