The Hidden Temple: Discovering God in the Heart

Once, the Lord fell into deep thought.

He realized that whenever a human being encounters a difficulty in life, he runs to me in panic. He only shares his sorrows, his troubles, and his failures.

But when there is happiness and contentment in his life, he doesn't even remember me. He never expresses gratitude when he comes to me; he only asks for something or the other.

Seeing all this, a thought came to the Lord's mind :"I give everything to a human being according to his deeds, yet at the slightest difficulty, he stands before me with a bundle of complaints. This neither brings me peace nor the opportunity to practice spiritual practice in my eternal form."

To resolve this dilemma, the Lord called a meeting of all the gods and said :"O gods! Please tell me a place where I can reside and where humans cannot repeatedly come with their complaints."

Ganesha was the first to speak in the assembly :"Lord! You should go to the lofty peaks of the Himalayas."

The Lord smiled and said :"Even this place is not impossible for man; he can reach there through austerity and effort."

Then Lord Indra said :"You should reside in the deep ocean."

Varun Deva supported him, and someone else said :"You should go to the sky or space."

But the Lord said calmly :"Man's curiosity and desires are limitless. One day he will reach there too."

Now the Lord became somewhat disappointed.

He began to think :"Is there really no secret place for me where I can live without any worries?"

Then the Sun God humbly said :"Lord! You should reside in the heart of man."

All the gods were astonished.

The Sun God continued, "Man always looks outside—to mountains, temples, pilgrimage sites, the sky, the underworld...

But he never dares to look within himself.

He will search for You everywhere, but not in his heart."

"And even if one person in millions finds You in his heart, he will never complain. Because his desires will have been satisfied, and he will not have come to ask You for anything, but to merge with You."

God loved this idea of the Sun God.

At that very moment, He made up His mind and went to reside in the heart of man forever.

Since then, man has been wandering through temples, pilgrimage sites, mountains, caves, and the sky and the underworld in search of God,but He never opens the door of that "heart-like temple" within Himself.

The truth is that

to see God, the "door of the heart" must be opened, and this is possible only when the "door of the mind" is closed.

Because the door of the mind remains open to the world,

and the temple of the heart faces inward...

where God is always waiting.
