Cosmic Origins: The Stellar Journey of Gold

We commonly see gold mined in mines, so it's natural to assume it was created on Earth. But science tells a different story. The truth is that gold isn't created on Earth; it was formed in space billions of years ago and later reached Earth.

1. Why can't gold be formed inside the Earth?

The Earth's temperature is very high and the pressure is extremely high. Yet, these conditions aren't sufficient to create heavy elements like gold. Gold is a heavy element, requiring a lot of energy and neutrons to form. Therefore, Earth or stars like the Sun cannot create gold.

2. Where is gold actually formed?

According to scientists, gold is created in the most violent events in the universe:

* Neutron Star Collisions

When two neutron stars collide:

* Tremendous energy is released

* Temperatures of millions of degrees are created

* Heavier elements are formed

In this process, elements like gold, platinum, and uranium are created.

* Supernova Explosions

Certain types of supernovae also contribute to the formation of gold, but today scientists believe that neutron star collisions are the largest source.

3. So how did gold reach Earth?

When Earth formed (about 4.5 billion years ago), most of its gold melted into the core, leaving very little on the surface. For millions of years afterward, meteorites and asteroids fell on Earth. These rocks brought with them gold formed in space. This is the gold we find in mines today.

4. So why is gold so valuable today?

Gold is very rare and cannot be recreated.  It's simply a gift of cosmic events. That's why it became a symbol of currency, jewelry, and economic security.

💐Conclusion : - Gold wasn't made on Earth; it was created in space. It arrived on Earth via meteorites. Every gold particle is a gift from the stars, meaning the gold in your hand was once created by the collision of two dead stars.
