A powerful king ruled a kingdom. He had a very intelligent and clever minister in his court. The minister had become a favorite of the king due to his wisdom, reasoning, and witty answers. The king sought his advice before every important decision. This was why the other ministers in the court grew jealous of him.
The courtiers knew that as long as the minister remained close to the king, they would never receive his favor. This jealousy gradually blossomed into a conspiracy. They hatched a plan to remove the minister from the king's path. They even involved the king's barber in this conspiracy.
The barber would often have the opportunity to converse with the king while cutting his hair. One day, while cutting his hair, he said,"Your Majesty, last night I had a strange dream."
The king, curious, asked, "What kind of dream?"
The barber replied, "Your Majesty, I saw your revered father in my dream. He was in heaven."
The king became emotional upon hearing his father's name. He asked anxiously,"How are they? Are they happy?"
The barber continued, walking away, and said,"They are healthy, Your Majesty, but they are very sad about one thing. There is no one to entertain them in heaven. Whenever they see you on earth, laughing and talking with the minister, they wish they were with you."
Hearing this, the king became worried. The barber continued, "They have sent a message to send the minister to heaven so that they too can be happy."
The king wanted to fulfill his father's wish. The very next day, he summoned the minister and announced that he would be sent to heaven. The minister was stunned to hear this.
The king told the minister the entire story of the barber's dream. The minister immediately understood that it was a conspiracy by the courtiers, but he could not disobey the king's orders. He agreed to go to heaven, but asked for permission to spend a few days with his family.
He went home and told his wife everything. The wife was very worried, but the minister had already made a plan. Together, they dug a deep pit in the courtyard of the house and built a secret tunnel from it to their bedroom.
A few days later, the minister approached the king and said,"Your Majesty, I am ready to go to heaven, but our tradition is that at such times, the body is buried in the courtyard of the house."
The king agreed. The minister was buried in the pit dug in his courtyard. But as planned, he escaped safely to his home through the tunnel and remained hidden there for two months.
Two months later, he suddenly appeared in the king's court. His hair and beard had grown and his appearance had completely changed. Seeing him, the court was in a state of panic.
The king asked in surprise,"Minister! How did you come back? How is our father?"
The minister said,"Your Majesty, all is well in heaven. I made your father laugh a lot, and he was very happy. But there is a big problem there."
"What?" the king asked.
The minister said, "There's no barber in heaven. That's why my hair and beard are like this. Your father's condition is even worse than mine. He's sent a message to send your barber to heaven as well."
Coincidentally, the barber was standing there. Hearing this, he was horrified. The king immediately ordered the barber's burial. Terrified, the barber fell at the king's feet and revealed the entire conspiracy and the names of the ministers involved.
The king was furious when he learned the truth. He severely punished all the conspiring ministers and bestowed even greater honor on the clever minister.
