Lessons in Love: The Story of the Crow & the Peacock

A crow fell in love with a peacock. He often followed the peacock around. The peacock understood this, yet he pretended to be ignorant and kept his distance.

One day, the peacock saw a yellow envelope in front of his house. Inside the envelope was a small black flower. The peacock realized that the crow had sent it.

A few days later, the crow and the peacock met. The peacock said,"As black as your body is, so are your tastes. There are so many colorful flowers in the world, and yet you sent me a black flower!"

After listening to the peacock, the crow left sadly.

For many days, the peacock had no news of the crow. Weeks passed, months passed, and even years passed. There was no news of the crow. Anyway, the peacock never tried to search for the crow.

Many years later, the crow and the peacock suddenly met again.  The peacock looked at the crow and said,"Everyone wants to love me because of my beauty. You wanted to too. Then why didn't you try to get me?"

The crow replied,"I only spoke to you once in my life. Until you spoke to me, I thought that behind a beautiful face lay a beautiful heart. But when I saw that you judge even something as beautiful as a flower by its color, I realized I was chasing a mirage. So I withdrew."

The peacock said,"If I wanted to get you now, would you love me?"

The crow replied,"The intoxication of the eyes has worn off. When the intoxication of the eyes wears off, even the beauty of the peacock no longer captivates the eyes. Then the peacock appears as graceless as the crow. The true truth of life then shines before the eyes. This truth shows the right path. If I forget that truth and get carried away by emotions again, I will wander like a directionless sailor in the vast ocean."

The crow and the peacock started walking in opposite directions. Gradually, the distance between them began to increase. The more this distance increased, the more pearls they would be able to pick from the ocean called "life."
