The Hidden Value

A saint lived in a forest. He wore the attire of a monk, spoke with a sense of righteousness, and his face was so radiant that no one could remain unimpressed.

Once, a man from the city came to the forest. As he passed by the Mahatma's hut, he saw many people coming to see him.

He approached the Mahatma and said, "You're not rich, you're not wearing expensive clothes. I'm not impressed by you at all, so why do so many people come to see you?"

The Mahatma took off one of his rings and gave it to the man, telling him to sell it in the market and exchange it for a gold necklace.

The man went to the market and went to every shop, asking for a gold necklace in exchange for his ring. But no one was willing to exchange even a piece of brass for the ring, let alone a gold necklace.

Frustrated, the man returned to the Mahatma and said, "This ring is worthless."  The Mahatma smiled and said, "Now take this ring to the goldsmith's shop in a back alley."

When the man went to the goldsmith's shop, the goldsmith offered not one rosary, but five rosaries in exchange for the ring. The man was astonished that no one was willing to exchange a brass rosary for such a simple ring.

But how could this goldsmith offer five gold rosaries? The man went back to the Mahatma and explained everything.

The Mahatma said, "Things are not always what they appear to be. This is no ordinary ring, but a diamond ring, which only a goldsmith could identify."

So he agreed to give the five rosaries. "Just like you weren't impressed by my attire, but the light of knowledge draws people to me." The man felt embarrassed after hearing the Mahatma's words.

💐Moral : - A person is not identified by their clothes, but by their conduct and knowledge."
