In this world, no individual is great; time is great and powerful. It is time that elevates some to the throne and others to the ground. The greatest example of this is the great archer Arjuna. The same Arjuna, whose Gandiva's twang used to shake the three worlds, was unable to protect the cowherds from ordinary Bhils (robbers) when time turned.
📜 Let's explore the mythological story behind this truth:
This was at a time when the end of the Yadu dynasty was near due to the curse of Gandhari and Sage Durvasa. Before departing for his heavenly abode, Lord Krishna summoned Arjuna to Dwarka and entrusted him with one final, crucial task: "Take all the women and cowherds of Dwarka safely to Hastinapur."
After the funeral of Shri Krishna and the Yaduvanshis, the grief-stricken Arjuna set out for Hastinapur, taking the women of Dwarka and their immense wealth.
😥 The Great Warrior's Helplessness:
On the way, Bhils and villagers greedy for wealth surrounded the convoy. Arjuna, confident in his prowess, warned them, but when the robbers refused to listen, he picked up his world-famous bow, the Gandiva.
But what was this?
Arjuna repeatedly chanted mantras and invoked his divine weapons, but none appeared. His divine Gandiva became as heavy as an ordinary wooden bow. The "Akshaya Quiver" (the inexhaustible quiver) given to him by Agnidev (the god of fire) was empty.
Arjuna, who had destroyed the vast Kaurava army in the Mahabharata war, was now helpless before ordinary robbers. In no time, the Bhils plundered the cowherds and their wealth.
💡 Maharishi Vyas's Wisdom and the Cycle of Time:
Shameful and grief-stricken, Arjuna approached Maharishi Ved Vyas and asked the reason for his defeat.
Vyas then explained the greatest truth of life:"O Arjuna! Do not grieve. The power you were proud of was not actually yours. All that power belonged to Lord Krishna himself. As long as he was with you, your arms had strength and the Gandiva had power. As soon as he departed for his heavenly abode, that power also vanished."
Ved Vyas continued: "Now the new age (Kali Yuga) is beginning. Times have changed. The purpose of your weapons has been fulfilled. Any power remains important only as long as the world needs it. Whatever happened was the turn of time and the will of God."
Conclusion : - Arjuna accepted this change in time. He obeyed Shri Krishna's final command and crowned his great-grandson, Vajranabh (after whom Braj Mandal is named).
This story teaches us that the pride of power, position, and prestige is futile. As the wheel of time turns, circumstances change quickly. Therefore, always remain humble.
