Once upon a time, there was a Brahmin couple who had no children, which made them very unhappy. One day, the Brahmin went to the forest to worship Lord Hanuman. There, he performed the puja and prayed to Lord Hanuman for a son.
At home, his wife also observed a fast on Tuesdays, praying for a son. She would only eat after offering food to Lord Hanuman at the end of her fast on Tuesdays.
One Tuesday, the Brahmin woman was unable to cook or offer food to Lord Hanuman. She vowed that she would only eat after offering food to Lord Hanuman the following Tuesday.
She remained hungry and thirsty for six days. On Tuesday, she fainted. Lord Hanuman was pleased with her devotion and dedication. As a blessing, he gave the Brahmin woman a son and said that the child would serve her well.
The Brahmin woman was overjoyed to have the child. She named him Mangal. After some time, when the Brahmin returned home, he saw the child and asked who he was.
His wife replied that Lord Hanuman, pleased with her Tuesday fast, had given her the child. The Brahmin did not believe his wife. One day, when he had the opportunity, the Brahmin threw the child into a well.
Upon returning home, the Brahmin woman asked, "Where is Mangal?" Just then, Mangal appeared, smiling. The Brahmin was astonished to see him back. That night, Lord Hanuman appeared to him in a dream and told him that he himself had given him the son.
The Brahmin was very happy to learn the truth. After this, the Brahmin couple began observing a fast every Tuesday.
Whoever reads or listens to this Tuesday fast story and observes the fast with devotion, will have all their troubles removed and attain all happiness through the grace of Lord Hanuman, and will become worthy of Lord Hanuman's compassion.
