The Power of Innocent Prayer

Kishangarh village hadn't seen a drop of rain for four years. The fields were dry, the ponds had burst, and lines of worry were clearly visible on people's faces. Everyone was tired of praying to God. In the same village, a poor farmer named Ramdas was barely making ends meet with his wife and two children—Gudiya (6 years old) and Raju (4 years old).

One evening, when the sky was filled with dust and the wind rustled with dry leaves, Ramdas sat lost in thought. Finally, he said to his wife, "Hey, Gudiya's mother, please take the children to the prayer room... Today, we will all pray to God for rain together."

The wife took the two children and went to the prayer room. Ramdas was already sitting there with folded hands. Tears welled in his eyes, his voice choked—"O Lord! I have heard that You listen quickly to the prayers of children... Please have mercy on our village, send rain."

With that, everyone closed their eyes and began to pray with sincere hearts. Gudiya also innocently said to herself, "Lord, my father is very troubled... You can do anything... Please bring rain to our village too."

After a while, the puja ended. Ramdas got up and started to leave.

"Baba, where are you going?" Gudiya asked.

"I'm just going to the fields, son," Ramdas said.

Hearing this, Gudiya ran and grabbed the umbrella hanging from a peg.

"Hey, father, take this umbrella with you..."

Ramdas smiled and said, "Hey, son, what's the use of it? It's already evening, there's no sunshine."

Gudiya innocently replied, "Hey, father, we just prayed to God for rain... What if it really rains?"

Ramdas paused. His eyes lingered on his daughter's innocent face.  He felt as if someone had said to him, "It's good to pray, but even more important is to believe that your prayer will be heard."

Emotionally, Ramdas lifted Gudiya into his lap, kissed her forehead, and smiling, umbrella in hand, walked toward the field.

That day, clouds were gathering in the sky... and soon the first drop of rain fell to the ground—as if God had heard Gudiya's sincere prayer.
