The Evolution of Generosity

In a certain city, a gentleman used to see a beggar sitting outside a temple every day.

His heart melted at the beggar's plight.

He decided to give him 1,000 rupees every month—without any pretense, just out of humanity.

The beggar was happy. Every month, the same man would come and hand him an envelope with a smile.

Time passed in this way...

One day, the man put only 750 rupees in the envelope.

The beggar looked at it, but said nothing—

He thought, "At least I got something. God sent it for some reason."

The next month, the envelope arrived—it contained only 500 rupees.

The beggar could no longer bear it.

He said irritably—"First, you used to give 1,000, then 750, now 500! What kind of help is this?"

The man said calmly, "Brother, when I started giving to you, my financial situation was quite good,and my children were young.

Then my daughter went to college, and expenses increased, so I had to give a little less.

Now my son is also in university, and the fees are very high, so I can only give 500 rupees."

The beggar said angrily, "So you'll now educate your children with my donation?"

The man smiled and said softly, "Brother, perhaps you're forgetting...

Charity is not a right—it's a grace."
