Rudra and Meera had been married for fifty years. Even with gray hair and wrinkles, they were incomplete without each other. From morning tea to nighttime medicine—Meera considered everything incomplete without Rudra, and life was difficult for Rudra without Meera.
One day, sitting on a park bench, Rudra said, "Meera, I wonder, if I leave first, who will even tell you the way to the bank?"
Meera smiled, but there was a slight moisture in her eyes.
"And if I leave first, who will make your cardamom tea, Rudra?"
From that day on, they both decided—"They would now prepare for the end of their lives, with the same affection and laughter."
Rudra began teaching Meera how to navigate the bank, ATM, gas agency, and pay bills.
Meera also taught Rudra how to cook dal-rice and khichdi.
Whenever Rudra would overdo the spices in the kitchen, Meera would laugh and say, "Now you'll have to become a chef." And sometimes, when Meera made a wrong entry in her passbook, Rudra would say, "Well, now you've become a banker."
Slowly, they both transformed their lives into a "joyful ashram"—where every day, every moment of their lives became a celebration.
Morning, temple, afternoon, TV serial, evening walk in the park, and night, old songs.
Rudra would often say, "Meera, I'm not afraid of death anymore. We've learned everything, we've shared everything."
Meera would smile and say, "Now, whoever goes first, the other won't have any fear, only memories."
One morning, Rudra made the same cardamom tea for Meera, put out Nice biscuits, and said, "Let's go to the bank today."
Meera took the cup with a smile, and said, "Now everything comes to me, there's no hurry to go anywhere."
That evening, when Meera made the same tea for Rudra,he sat on the bench, smiling—as if saying, "Now I'm at peace, now you know everything..."
Meera touched his shoulder,he was gone—calm, smiling, like a ripe leaf swaying in the wind and returning to the earth.
Tears flowed from Meera's eyes, but her face remained calm.
She knew—Rudra was gone, but he had taught her the most beautiful way to live life—"to embrace every stage of life with love, preparation, and joy."
And from that day on, Meera's home truly became "Anandashram"—where every memory, every object, every fragrance was imbued with Rudra's love.
