A Tale of Loyalty and Bravery

We were from a wake in the other village. We walked a little long way home because there were no rides left. The surroundings are dark, only moonlight and a few fireflies are illuminating. The surroundings are quiet, but I feel like somebody's watching us.

Gabriel said Rony I feel different here ha Like someone's following us.

I just nodded and peeked back. I can't see anything but Enting's fur is up and his constant howling.

I said Sabel, can you still do it? We are getting close.

He replied while rubbing his belly, Yes, but I suddenly felt dizzy. The wind is so heavy here, seems to be something strange.

Suddenly we heard loud footsteps coming from the side of the road. Looks like there are heavy creatures hiding in the trees. I also heard the strange sound of an animal breathing.

Gabriel: Rony, is there anyone there? Or maybe just an animal?

We haven't moved yet, Enting barked loudly. His bark is just not normal. He looks so angry, running in front of us at the same time, guarding.

Out of the darkness three creatures emerged. Skin pale, nails long, and eyes twinkling. They are not humans, and they are especially unusual animals.

Sabel: Oh my God! Rony, Gabriel, help me!

Gabriel: Rony, is this what I'm afraid of, they are creatures!

I'm nervous but I gotta make moves. I held Sabel in the arm and tried to move him away. But it seems we are getting closer to the middle of the village where the surroundings are getting darker.

As the critters were getting closer, Enting suddenly jumped up and bit one of them. A scream was so loud that I couldn't explain if it was animal or human. One went backward, but the two, are getting even more angry.

One of them said, The flesh of his womb... Amen to that!

Gabriel: Rony! They just won't stop!

Sabel is crying, Don't leave me alone, save my baby!

I feel like I'm losing strength but I have to be strong. I picked up a big wood on the side of the road and smashed the creature approaching Sabel. This hit the head and stopped for a while.

Meanwhile, Enting keeps pushing, barking and not making a sound. Even when he was wounded, he never ceased to defend us.

Gabriel pulled us away and yelled, Hurry! Let's go to the old cottage, maybe we can hide there!

We ran into a little shed that was already ruined. When we entered, we closed the door and placed some wood so it wouldn't open immediately.

While inhaling, Sabel cried, Rony, Gabriel, we may not get out of here!

I calmed him down, Don't be scared, Sabel. There is a God who will defend us.

Outside we hear loud scratching on the walls and doors. Sabel is already crying while holding her belly.

But I didn't expect what Enting did. Instead of staying inside, he suddenly jumped out of the window and rushed into the creatures.

Gabriel shout out, Rony! Shall we leave Enting alone?

I wanted to obey but Gabriel touched me, Nope! Don't go outside, that was Enting's plan. He takes creatures away from us!

Outside, we once again heard Enting's loud barks, along with the strange howls of the creatures. As time goes on, the noise slowly fades away until it's completely gone.

The surroundings are quiet again. All that can be heard is Sabel's crying and our quick breathing.

Sabel crying, Is Enting still alive?

We came out of the hut when we were sure the critters were gone. That's where we saw Enting, injured but alive. He's doing great on the ground but he's still howling, as if telling us we're safe.

I kneel down and hugged Enting. Thank you my friend If it wasn't for you, we could be here by now.

Sabel got up and stroked Enting, Thank you Enting. I will never forget what you did for my child.

We decided to go back to our village immediately. Enting has wounds but we took him to the albulary for treatment. Thank God he survived.

Till this day, I still wonder how we survived. If it wasn't for our dog Enting who bravely faced danger, we might not have seen the morning.

That's why I'm still wondering... why is it that an animal is often braver and more loyal than other humans?
