Myanmar: The Land of Gold and Spiritual Richness

Myanmar is famous as the land of gold among East Asian countries. When you pass over the cities of Myanmar, you can see a golden sheet covering the entire land. You can only see golden stupas, temples and pagodas. If you look, you can see gold everywhere. The Irrawaddy river passes through the heart of this golden land, the banks of which is the real Myanmar. Huge Buddhist temples, clouds filled with drops of water, forests spread far and wide and small and big houses situated on the banks can be seen on the mountains.

According to the Mandalay Business Forum, there are more than seven hundred golden temples on the hills around Mandalay. The ruins of more than 2200 temples and pagodas are scattered around the city named Bagan. There were more than 10 thousand temples here during the period of the Pagan Empire between the 11th and 13th centuries. During this period, Buddhism was spreading all over Myanmar. However, Buddhism had set foot on the land of Burma two thousand years ago.

It is said that gold has a lot of importance in Myanmar's culture. Even in the present times, gold is molded into various colors and shapes in the traditional way. It is ensured that the gold is completely pure i.e. 24 carat gold.

Gold is placed between the bamboo leaves and 100 to 200 layers are made. After this, they are beaten with hammers for about 6 hours so that they can take the right shape. After this, they are cut into thin one-inch pieces. These gold leaves are offered in temples. The most important thing is that gold is also used in traditional medicines.

The most unique thing here is that gold leaf is also added to the local liquor. The local liquor is known as white whiskey. Gold leaf is added to its bottles and shaken. After this, people pour the gold-mixed liquor into glasses and enjoy it.

Gold is considered very sacred in Myanmar. About 90 percent of the country's population is Buddhist. Gold is given great importance in Buddhism, because gold is considered a symbol of the sun. The sun represents knowledge and wisdom.

In Myanmar, people prefer to buy gold instead of saving accounts in banks. Gold shops are found in even the smallest towns. Ever since independence from the British in 1948, Myanmar's economy has been going through a period of instability and isolation from the rest of the world. Because of this, people still consider investing in gold to be the safest.
