Researchers from Italy and Scotland have claimed that there is 'a huge underground city' under the pyramids of Giza. New research claims that the city is spread to a depth of more than 6,500 feet just below the pyramids of Giza, due to which the pyramids can be 10 times bigger than their own height.
According to the report, Corrado Malunga of the University of Pisa, Italy, and Filippo Biondi of the University of Strathclyde, Scotland, have done this new research. They have made this surprising claim in their new study. It was released during a briefing held in Italy this week. However, it has not yet been published in any scientific journal. Also, independent experts have not yet analyzed it, which would be necessary.
According to this new study, eight vertical cylindrical structures extend to a depth of more than 2,100 feet beneath the pyramid and unknown structures are also claimed to be found at a depth of 4,000 feet. Many experts have already rejected this shocking claim.
The discovery comes from a study that used radar pulses to create high-resolution images deep into the ground below structures, without requiring any digging, similar to how sonar radar is used to map the depths of the ocean.
The Giza complex has three pyramids, named Khafre, Khufu and Menkaure. They were built about 4,500 years ago on the west bank of the Nile River. Each pyramid was named after a pharaoh. The northernmost and oldest was built for Khufu. It is known as the Great Pyramid and is the largest. The middle pyramid was built for Khafre, which the team studied. Menkaure is the southernmost and last pyramid.
Lawrence Conyers, a professor at the University of Denver and a radar expert who works on archaeology, said in an interview that it is simply not possible for any technology to reach that deep into the ground. This makes the idea of an underground city a huge exaggeration.
Professor Conyers says there are likely to be smaller structures beneath the pyramids, such as shafts and chambers, that existed before they were built. He says this is because the site was 'special to ancient people'. Despite his doubts, he said the only way to prove the discoveries are true would be through 'targeted excavation'. He says the researchers are not making things up and their basic methodology is correct. Those concerned about the site need to pay attention to their interpretations. Interpretations can be debated and that's called science. However, the basic methods need to be solid.
