Here, the jewelry thief swallowed diamond earrings worth Rs 6.7 crore to erase the evidence of theft. The police had arrested a man on charges of theft, whose name is Jethan Lawrence Gilder.
When the police arrested the accused in the jewelry theft, nothing was found from him, but they saw some strange thing in the body scan, which revealed the theft. Jethan Lawrence Gilder is 32 years old, who entered the high-end jewelry store by introducing himself as a representative of a local basketball player.
With his cleverness, he reached the expensive designs of the store and as soon as he got the opportunity, he ran away with two precious earrings. Out of these, one set of 4.86 carats was worth Rs 1.4 crores, while the other set of 8.10-carat was worth Rs 5.3 crores. After the theft in the store, the police started searching for the accused gilder. After this, the police stopped him on a highway and arrested him, but the stolen goods were not found with him.
Because of a lack of evidence, he was only charged with hindering arrest. However, when he was taken to the jail, Gilder suddenly asked a jail officer if he would be charged for what was in his stomach. His nervousness aroused the police's suspicions.
Based on suspicion, police got the thief's X-ray scan done and found small metallic objects in his stomach. Officials believe that these are the same diamond studded earrings that he had swallowed. Police said that the jewellery would be recovered from his body through natural processes only. After his arrest, Gilder realized his mistake. He told police that instead of swallowing the diamonds he should have thrown them out of the car window. Gilder is a chronic offender and there are already 48 warrants issued against him in Colorado.
