A Place Where It has been Burning For 4000 Years.

There are many surprising places in the world.  People can't believe it after knowing about these places. There is a place on earth where fire has been burning continuously for the last 4000 years. Neither rain nor snow could extinguish this fire. Even strong cold winds had no effect on this fire. This fire is burning on a hill. In the local language this hill is called Yanar Dag. Yanar Dag means burning hill.

This hill is situated on the Absheron Peninsula of Azerbaijan. Every year lakhs of tourists come to see the burning fire. Actually, Azerbaijan has reserves of natural gas. This type of fire is a side effect of the gas itself. Sometimes they catch fire due to surface gas leaking. This happens in many areas of Azerbaijan.

Because of this, Azerbaijan is also called the Land of Fire. The fire extinguishes itself after the surface leaked gas is exhausted, but that has not happened yet at Yaner Dag. Yanar Dag has been attracting the people of Azerbaijan for many years. The most surprising thing is that here even snow turns into water after hitting the ground.

The famous Venetian explorer Marco Polo has mentioned the mysterious happenings of this place. He visited this country in the 13th century. Other traders traveling through Azerbaijan have also reported seeing the flames. Azerbaijan was known as the country of fire during that time. In fact, at that time no one was aware of the existence of natural gas underground in Azerbaijan. At that time people considered this fire a mysterious incident.

It is said that this fire has a special connection with the ancient Zoroastrian religion.  Zoroastrianism was established in Iran and flourished in Azerbaijan in the 1st millennium BC. For people in Zoroastrianism, fire is a medium between humans and the supernatural world. One can gain spiritual insight and knowledge from this. It is considered purifying, life giving and an important part of worship.
