The Earth Day

Earth Day was earlier celebrated twice every year on 21st March and 22nd April but from 1970 onwards this day was decided to be celebrated on 22nd April only. Earth Day on March 21 has been celebrated only as a symbol of spring in the northern hemisphere and autumn in the southern hemisphere. Although Earth Day, celebrated on 21 March, has the support of the United Nations, but only has scientific and environmental importance, whereas Earth Day celebrated on 22 April has social and political significance all over the world.



History of earth day

US Senator Gaylord Nelson established this as environmental education. Since then the practice of celebrating Earth Day started.  Starting from the year 1970, this day is celebrated by more than 195 countries all over the world.

It is said that in America this day is known as Tree Day. It is called Father of Earth Day. It is the largest public awareness movement in the world. In this together, billions of citizens from 192 countries participate. All these people have pledged to protect the earth. 

More than 1 billion people all over the world participate in Earth Day activities every year.  Thus with such a large number, it is the largest civil movement in the whole world.

Earth Day is an annual event, which is held on 22 April worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection. At the time of this date, there is spring in the northern hemisphere and autumn in the southern hemisphere.

20 million American people participated in the first Earth Day held on 22 April 1970, in which people from every society, class and region participated. Thus this movement was transformed into the largest environmental movement of modern times.

During this, students of thousands of colleges and universities of America protested against the degradation of the environment.

Eco-loving, Enlightened societies, Voluntary organizations; To prevent the incidents of oil spills in the sea, to stop companies dumping factory waste water in rivers, to stop the practice of dumping toxic waste and to stop economic activities that cut down forests, there are continuous demonstrations today. 


  Who Invented World Earth Day?

The term "Earth Day or Earth Day" was coined by Julian Koenig in 1969. April 22 was chosen to celebrate this new movement, which is also Kennig's birthday. He said that "Earth Day" harmonizes with "Birth Day", so he suggested celebrating Earth Day on 22 April.

Apart from this, there are also school holidays in the world in this month, due to which people are free to participate in the movement and the temperature in the countries of the world is also favorable.

Ron Cobb created an ecological symbol, which was later adopted as the symbol of Earth Day.  This logo was made by adding the letters "E" and "O", in which "E" denotes "Environment" and "O" denotes "Organism". This logo was published in "Los Angeles Free Press" on 7 November 1969 and then it was placed in the public domain.

Facts related about 'Earth Day

The importance of Earth Day is important because, on this day, we get to know about the impact of global warming on the environment through environmentalists.

In September 1969, at a convention in Washington, US Senator Gerald Nelson of Wisconsin announced that in the spring of 1970 there would be a nationwide public demonstration on the environment. Senator Nelson introduced the first nationwide environmental protest to add the environment to a national agenda.

Renowned film and television actor Eddie Albert played a key role in the production of Earth Day.  Especially after 1970, according to a report, Earth Day began to be celebrated on April 22, Albert's birthday.

The concept of Earth Day is said to have been introduced by Senator Gerald Nelson after a visit from Santa Barbara, just after the catastrophic oil spill in 1969. He was so enraged to see that he returned to Washington and passed a bill to celebrate Earth Day on April 22 as a national day.

Earth Day on 22 April 1970 marked the beginning of the modern environmental movement. Nearly two million Americans participated, with the goal of a healthy, sustainable environment.

Earth Day originated in America but became recognized worldwide by 1990.

In 2009 the United Nations designated April 22 as International Mother's Day.

Senator Nelson chose a date that would maximize the participation of environmental teaching on college campuses. He determined that the week from 19-25 April is the best for this. It does not fall during the time of exams or spring holidays, nor do religious holidays such as Easter, etc. occur at this time and so late in spring that the weather is good at this time.

Many cities celebrate Earth Day as Earth Day for an entire week, usually starting on April 16 and ending on Earth Day on April 22.
