Gopal Krishna Gokhale

There are many such things of great people, which they assimilate from childhood and move towards greatness. There is one incident that proves this.

After teaching the students in a class, the mathematics teacher gave them some questions to write, which had to be solved from home. All the students reached home and solved the questions by taking help from some or the other.

Among these students, there was a boy who enlisted the help of one of his classmates to solve only one question and solved all the remaining questions himself.

The next day, in the mathematics class, the teacher asked for a notebook from all the students. After checking all the notebooks, he found all the questions of the boy correct, the rest of the students had made some error.

The teacher praised the boy very much and started giving his pen as a prize, but the boy tearfully cried, "Master, I have solved one of these questions with the help of my friend. So I have cheated you. Punish me, not reward.

The teacher was happy with the boy's truth and said, "Now I give this award for your truth."

This child later became known as Gopal Krishna Gokhale. Gokhale considered Gandhi as his political mentor.

The essence of the saying is that with truth we take our character to the height from which it becomes self-respecting for the society.  At the same time, it also gives us spiritual peace that we are eternally free from the tribulation which is unfair or wrong.
